A Paterson man was arrested Thursday night for a fatal shooting at a city pool hall earlier this month, authorities said.

Leroy Hodgson

Leroy Hodgson, 33, was taken into custody at a store in the Wayne Hills Mall for the killing of Dontrelle Horne, 34, of Paterson.

Paterson Police responded to Paterson Billiards on Market Street at 2:38 a.m. on Dec. 1 after a report of shots fired. There they found Horne wounded. He was transported to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center where he later died from his injuries.

An investigation revealed that Hodgson and Horne were involved in a verbal altercation that culminated in Hodgson shooting Horne, according to a statement Friday from the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office.

Hodgson is charged with first-degree murder and second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon and certain persons not to have weapons.

Hodgson had a first appearance Friday in Central Judicial Processing Court where the state filed a motion for pretrial detention. That motion is scheduled to be heard by Judge Ramirez on Thursday at 9 a.m.
